Thankfulness

I've started writing this little journal. It's a Thankfulness Journal of sorts. Each day, I record a few things I'm grateful for...it could be anything. I don't write sentences; I just write words and brief ideas so that I can keep up with it day to day.

6.23.07 Sabre (my Shetland Sheepdog/Sheltie), air conditioning, Hawaiian
pizza.
6.24.07 Bird songs, salt, light, the Petersons (friends), anoles
(little lizards that change colors).
6.25.07 Literacy, ink
pens.
6.30.07 Thunderstorms, good health.
7.03.07 Freedom to
worship openly without persecution, variety in music, ability to climb
stairs.
7.04.07 Independence, calendars (I think I would die without MS
Outlook), fireworks, corn dogs, knowledge, fellowship with Believers,
stars.
7.06.07 Time with grandparents, reminiscience, memories,
history, good books.
I started this journal because I find that I frequently overlook the gracious gifts that God has given me - both spiritual and physical. The point is to turn my attention away from the things that I'm often critical of (I'm an analytical type, always trying to figure out how to make something better) to God, who has been my Provider. I want to become more content, but I think the only way to become more content is to first realize what you have and be thankful for it. I live with a lot of discontent people, and it gets frustrating hearing people complain all the time; after a while, it just drags you down. Anyway, that's the purpose of my journal - to turn my gaze upwards so that I can be content with what I have.
